Fashion - Bold & Daring Vintage Style Clothing
By viryabo
Following the fashionable trend of vintage style clothing, and carrying it off successfully doesn't necessarily require the creativity of a top fashion designer.
If you want to look stylish and different, trendy and fashionably vintage, you need to know how to incorporate vintage style clothing into your existing wardrobe, and have the knack of accessorising your fashion style.
Taking this approach to adopting a classic fashion signature is not hard, and it can be budget friendly too, saving you money.
To achieve the vintage style, you'll need a little creativity, an open mind and just a bit fashion sense. And if you are lucky to have very elderly family members still around or recently passed on, rummage through their personal stuff if you can get access to them, and discover some amazing finds of vintage clothing or other classic collectibles to start a collection you may have acquired.
Amassing Vintage Fashion Stuff Without Being Aware
Many of us have amassed vintage collections of clothing or accessories over the years even without being aware of it.
We may be accumulating items and pieces we barely use, items such as an ancient brooch with a few missing gemstones, vintage hat boxes, a vintage tie-neck fashion blouse, a 50's jelly bean bracelet, a musical trinket box with mother of pearl inlay but with a musical malfunction, or a pair of oversized rhinestone ear clips belonging to mum.
Womens Vintage Clothing & Accessories - Crafted With Style
We must remember that all these twentieth century fashion items were carefully and intricately crafted with style, so we should find productive ways to bring them back to life. We can stylishly incorporate vintage style clothing and accessorising into our twenty first century lives, wardrobes and fashion tastes.
This can be referred to as an 'indulgence in amassing the vintage'. And the aim of this indulgence is to transform all vintage collections into classic wears for the day or night.

5 Tips On How To Appear In Vintage Style Clothing
Here are 5 tips on how to wear the vintage style successfully, and how to make an enviable fashion statement as a classy dresser.
1) Grandma's seemingly dowdy 1930's flapper dress has great potentials. If for example it is too large around the bust but fits perfectly at the waist, then it can be altered to fit.
There really is no point worrying about modifications or alterations decreasing vintage clothes values. It will be useless to if it cant be worn, so how valuable can it be unaltered? It's either it ends up packed away somewhere, or taken to a dressmaker to have it altered to fit. Then it can be flaunted as classic fashion!
And on the if it's too small and impossible to button or zip up without it ripping at the seams, then a slimming corset will do the trick!
2) Look out for the basic pieces of vintage style clothing. Vintage fashion such as slacks, pencil skirts, dresses and jackets. It is better if these clothing items are in solid or neutral tones or colour. Once neutral, they will work well with trendy and modern blouses, tops and vintage inspired fashion shoes.
And with a stylish vintage pair of brown slacks or a black A-line skirt, you can wear these several times a week with different chic tops and blouses or shirts. You are even allowed to throw in a unique vintage fashion ladies tie.
3) When shopping around online or offline, invest in classic vintage style clothing and accessories or in vintage inspired apparel. Some clothing and great accessories will never go out of fashion, always coming back with just the slightest modifications.
Classic vintage clothing such as the boxy Chanel style jacket or black slacks will last season after season and will always be fashionable and chic and forever in style.
Investing in a great vintage leather handbag in a neutral colour, a cameo necklace, or a black wool suit is a great way to start your collection of vintage style clothing and accessories.
4) In the 60’s and the 70’s, polyester fabric was the fashionable fabrics for clothes, and in the 1980s, rayon was the rave! When looking out for vintage style clothing, avoid these fabrics as they come out looking dated and unfashionable! They have no co-relation with the term 'chic'. So it's much better and wiser to consider natural textiles such as cotton, silk, or wool.
You can successfully go with traditional textile patterns as textile patterns come and go. The 80’s Coogi sweaters is a good example. Look for vintage designer fashion clothing made with timeless fabric patterns such as hounds-tooth, plaid, and pinstripes.
Remember to collect or purchase vibrant and bold colours, styles and patterns for your vintage accessories.
5) Don’t wear vintage fashion from head to toe, but ensure you combine modern 21st century clothes and accessories with your vintage style clothing so as to avoid looking like you are attending a fancy dress party! You don’t have to re-live the past in all totality.
For a better and chic look, pin a rhinestone flower brooch or a beautiful cameo brooch on a neutral coloured jacket, or you can wear a vintage style silk flower scarf with a crisp white shirt. A vintage tie-neck blouse looks great over a pair of skinny jeans and you can enhance a new 'today's' dress with vintage or antique costume jewelry.
Integrate Vintage Fashion Into Your Wardrobe
Let's say you own a clear Lucite box handbag from the 60's, or an exquisitely beaded cardigan hanging on a rack in the back corner of your wardrobe, handed down to you by someone who felt you will cherish them.
Integrate these into your special vintage fashion wardrobe. You can wear them for special occasions, or to special events.
Conclusion
Now that you have a good idea of how to approach wearing vintage style clothing successfully, go out there and start amassing, by purchasing a few vintage items to start a collection.
And with the vintage items you've got in your possession, get busy preparing for your new fashion style by:
- tailoring great-grandma's flapper dress to fit.
- fixing that damaged brooch at a local jewellry shop. Have them fill in the missing gemstones with look alike faux gems, and then wear it with great pride.
- getting those white lace gloves cleaned professionally
Step out there in vintage style clothing with confidence and style. Because only the bold and confident can pull the vintage style and fashion off with success.

Wow such a nice post thanks for sharing.
Yeah, you have a point. My wife and I are big big fans of vintage fashion, but some of the designs are just too conservative that they bore us. Good thing my wife knows how to tweak dresses and accessories. She has raised the hemline of some of her skirts, restyled her Jon Renau wigs, and altered her cocktail dresses to show more cleavage. It's a good way to make vintage and modern styles meet halfway.
Thanks for sharing Great stuff.
These are really great and I love the 1960's Dior fashion show.
Thanks Celeb.
Vintage is really fun! I'm with you viryabo, to be stylish and different doesn't need to be expensive. Blending vintage to the touch of today can be very rewarding. All these makes help the world go green. Thank you.
