Mother Of The Bride Duties & Responsibilities: A Perfect Bride's Mum
71
As the mother of the bride, there are certain duties pertaining to the wedding that needs your attention. The joys of planning for a daughter's wedding knows no bounds, and the brides mother usually plays a major role in the preparations preceding the wedding ceremony.
The bride-to-be is too excited, and probably in a 'ninth cloud', to be able to do much detailed planning. She will be more engrossed in the choice of wedding apparel, the honeymoon and the wedding itself. Not in the many other details required to make the wedding a success.
Long before the wedding day, the mother of the bride and the intending bride must sit down and discuss issues that need to be addressed.
Today, its no more about a white wedding. People are getting bolder in their choice of themes for weddings. Traditionally it was always the white wedding, the basic wedding colour theme was primarily white. Today, with less emphasis on the norm, and more on creativity and uniqueness, colours such as silver, beige, champagne, and ivory became more popular. And now that black is no longer a taboo - yes black!- colours such as peach, lime, lemon, purple, burgundy, red and navy now adorn bridal accessories shops.
Mother Of The Bride Duties
And now, the mother of the bride can now be attired in 'to-die-for' dresses and gowns, stepping out beautifully adorned in colourful, sophisticated and chic wear.
Along with these changes and new trends comes additional duties for the mother of the bride.
As mother of the bride to be, your daughter needs your assistance or suggestions with:
- Choosing her dress.
- Choosing the bridal accessories.
- Choosing the colour scheme (wedding colours) for the day. You will also be expected to suggest compliments to the wedding colours.
- Deciding on the wedding theme (trend geared towards the vintage inspired).
- Finding wedding event planners.
- Choosing the venue.
- The choice of music and the performing band or DJ.
- Collation of the guest lists, deciding on who to invite and who shouldn't be invited. And when the guest list starts to get out of hand, you will help in narrowing down the list.
- The choice of drafting out and choosing the type of wedding invitations that go with the wedding theme.
- Reminding the bride about the importance of building a wedding planning website.
The mother of the bride is the assistant that's solely responsible for the other wedding details, including photography and video, choice of wedding cake, bridal accessories, the arrangements for the bridal shower, choosing the wedding bouquet and flowers.
Additional mother of the bride duties is being in charge of the choice of food caterers, deciding on what to give out as wedding favours, calling on the church for the church matters, choose the banquet room, reception, and take care of lodging for out-of-town guests.
A brides mother needs to liaise with the mother of the groom on all dress or gown issues concerning both of them. It is good if you both co-ordinate your choice of dresses for the mothers of the bride and groom.

Mother of the Bride Wedding Day Duties
The mother of the bride must leave the wedding ceremony at the church or registry, earlier than everyone else, even before the bride and groom. This is because her 'mother of the bride' wedding day involves her having to be there to greet and welcome all invited guests as they file into the reception hall.
She must ensure everyone is doing what they have to do, making sure all guests are well attended to.
This can also be done with the help of a wedding planner that must have been employed by the mother of the bride to carry out the wedding plans and activity.
Overall, the brides mother is to ensure that everyone is having a wonderful time.
Finally, the mother of the bride dances with the father of the bride or an escort if he is unavailable, and then she must dance with the groom during the first formal dance.
