Modelling Plus Size Swim Suits & Lingerie. A Profitable Modelling Career
By viryabo
Today, the plus size modelling industry is expanding rapidly, and if you are aspiring to become a plus size model, the plus size swim suits and lingerie niche is a lucrative branch to pursue in the plus size modeling industry.
Lets say you've always aspired to be a model, but then you've grown fat, its good for you to know that there are plus size modelling agencies searching for the curvaceous woman to model their plus size swim suits, fashion clothing and lingerie.
But being just full bodied is not quite enough to get into the plus size swim suits modeling career. There are certain requirements that must be met to make it successfully in the world of plus size swimwear modeling.
Its very important to first of all have a passion for modelling. And if you are full bodied, you mustn't have any hang ups, no self consciousness and you must possess a high esteem and feel confident and bold about your curvy silhouette.
The fashion industry that specialises in plus size apparel, specifically plus size swim suits and undergarments, require that:
You be well toned
Many large sized women, contrary to popular belief, are fit and well toned. Many people find it hard to equate plus size women with firm and toned bodies.
If you branch into the modelling of, for example, plus size lingerie and plus size swim suits, you will likely need to expose a large portion of your body because swimwear and lingerie are quite revealing.
To showcase and model plus size lingerie or swim wear, models must be well rounded, curvaceous and firm, and at the same time must look healthy.
You have smooth and clear skin
Asides plus size swimwear, you may have to model apparel like a sheer teddy, nightwear or other plus size intimates, so you must ensure that your body is free of unwanted hair, and unsightly pumps or rashes around the arms, elbows, knees, thighs and bottoms. Skin must show evidence of being well moisturised and it must glow. Nails must look well maintained and healthy.
You must be tall
The taller an aspiring plus size model is, the better the chances of her cinching great plus size modeling jobs. And if a plus size model is statuesque, the more successful she'll be in the modelling industry. The minimum height required is 5’9", so with this minimum requirement met, you are 'good to go'.
Your size must be a minimum of 12
Being around sizes 12 to 16 puts plus size swim suits models at optimum advantage, but being curvy must be a prerequisite, meaning the curves must be evident and in the right places.
This is because many are plump or even fat, but don't really have evident curves. If you are a plus size and do aspire to become a swim wear model but don’t have evident curves, you can work on this.
Your passion should give you enough drive to lose weight around those important areas.

Some of these women pictured as plus size aren't plus sizes. lol or at least they shouldn't be; they weigh like only 20 pounds more than regular models (in some cases at least).
Not that you can help what is determined as what size and what not. Either way, still a really great hub you wrote. I'm not plus sized; I’m small, but not like 90 pounds small lol, but my expectations of women aren't of people who weigh 100 pounds at 5'9 either, so I like seeing pictures of what real women look like from all walks of life and with all shapes and sizes. Honestly, I think that it’s great that people like you are showing that being plus size is just as much the “right size” as anything else.
I won't lie, I like high fashion and seriously as many bad examples of anorexia that is involved with in the industry (although has been a bit exaggerated at times), there are still many good influences from high fashion that people tend to overlook. Like for example, boob jobs, plastic surgery, skin bleaching, fake tans, are simply just not allowed. I mean, of course they do crazy artsy stuff with modeling where they change people's looks drastically on individual occasions just as an art form, but simplicity is perhaps just as or even more important in the high fashion industry as well…
yes I know I’m going way of topic here lol… but I just felt like saying that.
Plus I like how high fashion shows that there are all kinds of beauties out there in the most exotic manners, like women of very dark black African skin which honestly such a beautiful feature to have. But I wish that the industry doesn’t have to make it seem like women should honestly be as thin as rails.
Very helpful hub! Thanks for the tips.
It's nice to know that the modelling industry is welcoming plus-sized models like me. It has always been difficult for me to fit in because most designers would look for skinny and anorexic-looking models... This is such a great avenue to explore upon.
Very interesting and useful. :D
Thanks thesingernurse. I'm glad you find it useful. And i wish you all the best if you decide to become a plus size model.
Go for it.

viryabo..this is a lovely hub. I know quite a few women that have been successful at this. One of my close friends has a successful plus size clothing business based in NY. I always try to inspire women to be themselves and love themselves. All the best, G
