Getting An Interior Design Education

The complete study in interior design education can be split into 3 main parts as is done in many schools and universities. These parts, each having its own merit of a qualification are:

  1. Diploma in interior design and decoration
  2. HND interior design
  3. BA interior design

Interior Design Education - Diploma in interior design and decoration

The first part, the Diploma in interior design and decoration, with a study duration of 18 months in a distance learning class, is usually completed within 12 months depending on the available time you may have at your disposal. Obtaining the diploma is a great way to get introduced professionally into the exciting industry of interior design. In this course of interior design education you will focus mainly on residential designs.

Interior Design Education - HND course

The second part, the HND in interior design can be pursued immediately on completion of the Diploma course.

This study course in HND interior design education has a duration of 2 years of university or 60 semester credits.

In the pursuit of an interior design education, after, first the Diploma, and then the HND course in interior design, you will be required to complete a final major project which will form your final grade.

These projects are a culmination of all your course study and everything that you will have learnt.

Interior Design Education - BA interior design

The third part, BA interior design can only be pursued on successful completion of the HND course in interior design education.

In most colleges with the distance learning class, it may be divided into modules and will cover topics such as CAD(computer aided designs), Dissertation, Methodology and Final Major Project. A total of 120 credits.

By studying approximately 25 hours a week, this course can be completed within 12 months, and that means allowing roughly 10 hours a week consistently.

Interior Design Education As An Off-Campus Student

As an off campus, online student, you can study at a time and a place that is suitable to your lifestyle leaving you free to meet your family and work commitments whilst studying for your qualifications.

That means you can study and earn a degree from any location anywhere in the world.

Tutors will regularly submit additional tutorial literature to students for them to download from their respective universities and academy's websites, and most times, the required support with manuals will be sent through the post.

Interior Design Education - Building On Your Creative Skills

All in all, the whole 3 interior design study programs can be successfully completed within 3 years if, and only if you can be diligently dedicated to consistently finding time to study a minimum of 10 hrs a week as a distance learning student.

In the final major interior design education project, you will learn to build on your prior knowledge and design skills, including those gained from the Diploma and HND courses. You will be able to pursue a specialist area of interior design, of your choice.

This final project is a great way of entering the professional interior design industry, where graduates of interior design education will be expected to work independently and autonomously within the interior design field.
