Learn From Home Through ICS International Correspondence Schools
75
International Correspondence Schools or ICS has been around for decades. It was first referred to as Correspondence Schools and was a popular way of getting an education in the comfort of your home.
Not unlike today’s form of distance education, ICS home study courses is the pioneer of what we now know as on-line study which is somewhat fashioned after distance correspondence courses.
Unlike many distance learning on-line schools, getting an education through ICS distance learning courses is affordable, especially when compared to the exorbitant high costs of on school campus education of today.
And not only that. Learning is easy and flexible, and students receive great support from not only designated tutors but from a highly effective student's on-line interactive community.
Study is planned to be convenient for each individual student if need be, and the courses provides all the necessary study information and material that may be required before, during and sometimes even after successful completion of a chosen course.
Unique Study Methods of ICS Distance Learning
The unique study methods of ICS courses are planned and developed to allow students study on their own terms, in their own time, whether from home, from the office or from a public library. At International Correspondence Schools there are over a hundred courses with a wide range of subjects, with schools offering everything from GCSEs, A Levels and Diplomas, to Bachelor and Masters Degree programs and more.

ICS also offers professional qualifications in associations with professional bodies and institutes.
Students are given full support to make learning easy to implement and all paper based courses are split into smaller modules made up of clearly identified study units. Students can then work through each unit in their own pace.
Students are given a test after the completion of each unit. Test papers are sent online, by fax or by courier services by the tutor to his/her student and must be completed and sent back to the tutor for marking and grading. The tutor then returns the test papers with marks and comments.
With the successful completion of each module, the student is then ready for the next one.
Getting Started
Enrolling for ICS home study courses doesn't require any prior experience or other forms of qualifications but some courses require that students own learning tools or equipment, such as a PC or laptop with full internet access. Further information on what may be required by each student depending on the chosen course, can be found in the 'technical requirements' section of ICS course pages.
If the necessary requirements are met, enrolling students won’t need anything else because all course materials needed for study will be provided for by the correspondence school. Necessary course materials will be delivered to students within days of enrolment and when payments processing has been completed.
Study Duration
Course duration varies from one course to another. The time it takes to complete the course will always depend on how much time a student has to devote to learning each day and each week.
However, most ICS students complete their course study within one year to eighteen months, but there are a number of courses that require longer periods of studies.
Costs of Study
The price of correspondence courses will vary depending on the qualification that students expect to get after completion of studies. The price for each individual course is indicated on the particular web-page dedicated to that qualification.
Most International Correspondence Schools offer convenient payment plans subject to a minimum deposit, so enrolment can be achieved for a fraction of the course costs.
Substantial savings can be made should students decide to pay for a course in full upon enrolment.
ICS Learn - Student Examinations
Most ICS Diploma courses don't require any examination but what is mandatory is a continuous assessment of individual students. Some ICS courses however require that enrolled students sit for a few exams.
Students will receive information beforehand about what exams to take and when. They will receive all the information they require to make examination arrangements with their first study shipment.
Support from ICS Distance Learning
Students may be happy to know that because they are studying off campus doesn’t mean they are studying alone. For paper based studies, students will benefit from the support of experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable tutors. Tutors will mark, comment and provide feedback and encouragement, answering any questions students may have during the course of their studies.
Additionally, they can contact the school's Student Advisers who will give practical assistance throughout the course duration including access to online student community chat rooms.
ICS on-line student community has been designed to allow students interact with and learn from other international correspondence students, members and education experts, including getting involved in interactive discussions and having access to an on-line research library. They will also be able to voice their opinions through students’ surveys.
Courses are available for overseas students from any part of the world and all courses are “home learning” based which means you can study in your own time and at your own pace.

It's definitely good that technology is bridging the gap for people who don't have access to an education. Great article!
