69
Honeycomb window blinds are one of the latest and newly embraced ready made blinds of the twenty first century. These current and trendy' hard' window treatments are distinguished by a crisp and clean style, and are designed to roll up and down a window in an accordion fashion.
Honeycomb blinds are great as a functional window treatment that regulates the amount of natural light that is allowed into any room, giving one of the most flexible ways of controlling light infiltration. The honeycomb construction of the soft and durable window shades comes in rows of single, double or triple honeycombs. This is what makes honeycomb window blinds highly energy efficient.
Also referred to as cellular blinds by interior designers and decorators, their unique cellular design forms pockets of air that will insulate any window from heat and cold, making the interior temperature of the home more comfortable all year round.
Honeycomb shades also absorb sound and will control unwanted noise from outside the house.
Honeycomb Window Blinds - 'Hard' Window Treatments
Honeycomb ready made blinds are referred to as 'hard' window treatments and also known as 'non sewn window treatments' . Today, many homeowners and decorators prefer honeycomb blinds as window dressings and will combine them with soft window treatments for a great effect.
Honeycomb window blinds are more durable, easier to use and they require less maintenance than soft window treatments such as drapery, curtains, valances, tie backs and tiers.
With a wide range that will delight homeowners, honeycomb blinds range in light control is as follows:
- Sheer finish
- Semi sheer finish
- Semi opaque finish
- Opaque fabrics finishes
The general theory behind cellular shades is that the larger the cell size the better the insulation since the cells trap air in them. Triple cell blinds are therefore more energy efficient than single cell honeycomb window blinds.
Because of these qualities and advantages over other window shades and blinds, honeycomb window blinds, though much more expensive than traditional blinds, are a popular choice for its insulating powers that keeps heating and cooling bills to a minimum.
There are 'state of the art' lifting operations with cordless and remote control systems, are available for easier operation and with enhanced child safety in mind.
In the real estate industry, many home builders offer honeycomb window blinds in areas of the country where the weather is either very cold in the winter or quite hot in the summer months.
And if you are more inclined towards a natural look for your window treatments consider opting for natural shades made from grass, bamboo, raffia, and jute instead of honeycomb shades, and though not made from natural fibres, honeycomb window blinds have an enduring and lasting beauty.

These are such cool blinds - I often think about getting them but we have so many windows to cover with all the sun we get it was cost prohibitive - but a girl can dream! We have plantation blinds instead. Great hub and good information!
Great hub, I think I'm going to buy some of these for my windows. I recently took down some old drapes and discovered that our window in the living room is actually beautiful and big without the drapes. There is another window in the living room and two in the dining room which need updating. I think these honeycomb blinds will do the trick. Thank you very much!
