Twentieth century fashion trends have become the hit styles of the 21st century. The most successful fashion designers base a good number of their designs on vintage fashion and style. They tend to re-create fabulous clothing of a bygone era, blending it with a modern twist.

Fashionistas must certainly notice this in cuts and styles of top couture creations, and the beautiful ways they are moulded to fit into the present times, the modern woman's temperament, and the general hot fashion trends.

Clothing styles of some periods may have been relegated to the archives history with some bespoke ones good only as display in the museums of classic arts, yet fabulous styles such as the poodle skirt, one of the top fashion styles of the 1970's; are resurfacing in forms of fashionable trendy swirling gowns with floor sweeping hems and chic ruffles, or divine mini skirts that are full and flared.

Fabulous Clothing that Withstands the Test of Time

Some of the hot fashion trends of the past century that has inspired creations of hot and fabulous clothing for the 21st century:

  • Mini dresses and skirts
  • Platform shoes, block heels and kitten heels
  • Denim skirts and jackets
  • Little black dresses
  • Flared pants
  • Chic maxi dresses, both fitted and flowing

1950's Fashion

The fifties fashion trends was characterised by the popular pencil skirts. An American first lady, Jackie Kennedy made pencil skirts very popular and today this style still flatters most shapes and makes the hips look sleek, and legs appear longer.

1960's Fabulous Clothing

By the 1960's, skirts started to reduce in length culminating in the popular mini style by 1965.

This was a time when the quintessential girlie look of the 60's evolved, a time when slim cuts and simple lines that was characterised by tubular or A-line skimpy dresses, gave way to flared and pencil cut skirts of the past.

Fabulous clothing and stylish creations produced by designers like the British fashion icon Mary Quant and celebrities like Twiggy, and boutiques such as Biba and Miss Mouse that promoted and retailed them played major roles in endorsing the new, more relaxed and colourful clothing for fashionable women.

Fashionistas were crazy about platform shoes and maxi dresses in the 1970's. It was the rave!

And though platforms were "chunky", and looked somewhat awkward, every woman had at least a couple of pairs when the style first emerged.

This was also the time that heralded hot disco scenes.

The seventies heralded the emergence of fabulous clothing in form of midi and maxi dresses and skirts, hot pants, and full length flowing gowns that was always a great trend for a night out.

Thing about fashion is that it is so rich in terms of personal expression and when the time is right can be so hot and sexy too. Can't get enough - feed me hot fashion. Those tattered shorts with the gstring make me want to be a very bad girl.

viryabo 2 years ago

LOL!!! Lisa, yes, those shorts are hot. You are right. Fabulous clothing and style really is a personal expression and a personal fashion signature. And as fashion seems cyclic, we can be bold enough to don unique styles from any era. Its all about being bold and different.

Thanks for visiting and for leaving such nice comments.

It is very interesting to me how fashion is always recycled. I remember wearing bell-bottoms in the 90's and it's fascinating that the 90's and 70's are coming back in today.

viryabo 11 months ago

And even the mini outfits. I can't believe i used to wear such short skirts made from a quarter of a yard of fabric. LOL.

Thanks for visiting Ebower.

Cheers

Voted for 1950's.

1960's was my decade, but I love the 1950's fashion style a lot better. Loved the strong appeal of vintage. I'm a fan of all these comeback. Count me in!

Audrey Hepburn certainly looked lovely and elegant at every stage in her life. She's someone I'd like to emulate.

Great hub, thanks for the inspiration.
